WAKE COUNTY: Raleigh Police and Youngsville Police are continuing their attempts to locate 28-year-old Nathan Randall Pettigrew. Authorities say on August 2, 2005, a former girlfriend picked Pettigrew up near the intersection of Wake Forest and Brookside Drive in Raleigh. Soon after Pettigrew got in the car, he allegedly pulled out a knife and ordered the woman to drive. While they were driving, Pettigrew allegedly ripped the woman’s rearview mirror off the car and threw her cell phone out the window.
Frightened for her safety, when she got to the intersection of Peace Street and St. Mary’s Street, authorities say she stopped the car and made her first attempt to escape. She jumped out of the car, but Pettigrew quickly tracked her down and forced her back in the vehicle at knifepoint. A short distance later, the woman pulled into a convenience store parking lot. This time, as she tried to get out of the car, authorities say Pettigrew grabbed her wrist and started slashing her arm with the knife. However, she managed to escape and run inside the store. At that point, Pettigrew is believed to have fled on foot. This is the last time he was reportedly seen in the area.
A month prior to this incident, Youngsville Police charged Pettigrew with indecent liberties with a minor and statutory rape. On July 3, 2005, authorities say Pettigrew sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl. The girl’s parents reported the incident to the police shortly after she told them what happened. Investigators found out where Pettigrew lived and worked, and attempted to serve him arrest warrants in the days following the incident, but had no luck tracking him down.
