You did it again. As a direct result of your tips through the NC WANTED Hotline, a second violent fugitive from the Target Ten list is behind bars.
On the morning of Tuesday, June 12, 2007, Wake County Sherriff’s Office alerted NC WANTED that U.S. Marshals captured Juan Pablo Gayton-Barbosa. He had been on the run for nearly three years, but his arrest happened quickly. On Monday, June 11, 2007 at approximately 7:30p.m., Raleigh Police pulled Gayton-Barbosa who was driving in the mini-city area near Capital Boulevard. Then, U.S. Marshals swooped in for the arrest. Gayton-Barbosa had been working construction in the Raleigh area using the alias Francisco Alfaro. He had been living within a five-mile radius of the original crime scene.
Back in April, NC WANTED profiled Gayton-Barbosa, an illegal alien wanted for attempted murder in Wake County. He is accused of beating and shooting a woman and leaving her to die back in 2004.
As a favor, Gayton-Barbosa’s victim had shown kindness to him and provided the illegal alien a place to stay at a townhouse she owned off Millbrook Road in Raleigh. Gayton-Barbosa did some landscaping for his victim and had become romantically obsessed with the victim’s roommate.
On January 25, Barbosa was convicted by a Wake County jury. The judge sentenced him to at least 20 years in prison.
Sheriff Donnie Harrision praised the public, Raleigh P.D., U.S. Marshals and NC WANTED for cooperation in the capture. It was YOU and your tips that helped make our community safer tonight. Keep those tips coming!
