BERTIE COUNTY: It was closing time at the Be-Lo grocery store in Windsor. On Sunday, June 6, 1993, a black male suspect hid inside the store until only the manager, a clerk and cleaning crew were left.
At that point, the suspect proceeded to hold all six hostages. He used grey duct tape to bind six victims. He stacked the victims into three piles then shot into the piles.
Three of the victims died. A fourth victim was shot and injured. A fifth was stabbed and left for dead. A sixth was not hurt.
