TARGET TWENTY CAPTURE!
Press Release from Halifax County Sheriff's Office
February 1, 2008
On February 1, 2008, the police department in Dover Delaware served a search warrant on a residence which was being investigated for drugs.
One of the residents gave the name of Jamal McDonald. Mr. "McDonald" was fingerprinted by detectives and later found to be identified as Henry Artez Richardson of Roanoke Rapids N.C. Detectives exchanged information with the Halifax County Sheriffs Office to further confirm the identity of Mr. Richardson.
Mr. Richardson will be detained pending the extradition process.
Mr. Richardson was previously entered into a national data base of wanted persons by the Halifax County Sheriffs Office after a murder investigation on May 22nd, 2007.
On 5/22/07 at approximately 3:35 p.m., the Sheriffs Office responded to a shooting call in the Lincoln Heights community in Roanoke Rapids. Upon arrival deputies found Charlie Donell Pierce with several gunshots to the body.
Mr. Pierce died shortly thereafter. Several witness accounts of the crime were documented thus detectives found out that an argument minutes before the attack led to Mr. Richardson approaching Mr. Pierce in an outdoor card, shooting him with a handgun.
Mr. Richardson left the scene and has been sought by police since.
The Halifax County Sheriffs Office would like to extend special thanks to NC WANTED for their efforts in locating Mr. Richardson as well as Halifax County Crimestoppers.
If there are any follow up questions, I direct them to Sheriff Jeff P. Frazier @ (252)532-2333.
From NC WANTED's Target Twenty Details
Authorities say Henry Richardson shot and killed Charlie Pierce in broad daylight and hasn’t been seen since. It happened on May 27, 2007 around 3:30 in the afternoon. Charlie Pierce and Henry Richardson got into a heated altercation outside a small convenience store off Branch Avenue in the Lincoln Heights community of Halifax County. Neither was directly involved in a custody battle that was going on between two families in the community, but their differing opinions stirred emotions and sparked fury.
After the two were separated by some people standing outside the convenience store, Richardson headed in one direction while Pierce walked over to a house located directly across from the store on Stephens Street, where people were playing cards at a table in the front yard.
A short time later, eye witnesses say Richardson came out of nowhere and approached the group. He began making profane statements to Pierce, pulled out a gun and started shooting.
Pierce was shot once in the upper torso and once in the lower part of the abdomen.
The people at the card table scattered. Richardson took off on foot. He crossed the street, ran back toward the convenience store parking lot and then disappeared between some houses behind the store. This is the last time he was reportedly seen in the Halifax County area.
In the meantime, Pierce got up and tried to head back toward his house. After staggering about 50 yards, he collapsed in a ditch. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
