CHATHAM COUNTY — CHATHAM COUNTY: Brian Keith Blackwell was arrested January 3, 2008, after a vehicle chase and wreck, Chapel Hill Police told NC WANTED. During a routine check of a Park and Ride parking lot in Chapel Hill, officers spotted a 1992 Mazda occupied by Blackwell and two other men.
The vehicle sped out of the lot and officers followed. Although officers lost sight of the speeding vehicle, it eventually sped out of control and rolled off the highway. Police apprehended Blackwell, Mauricio Eugene Long and Justin Lee Noell, who are both wanted for other crimes, at the scene of the crash.
On October 13, 2006, Blackwell was charged with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and felony possession of cocaine. He was also charged as a habitual felon.
He posted $30,000 bond on October 26, 2006 and was living outside of jail. He appeared in court on July 31, 2007 for a probable cause hearing. He was scheduled to make a guilty plea and be sentenced the same day, but he disappeared after telling his lawyer he did not want to go back to jail, authorities say. The judge set Blackwell’s new court date for August 20, 2007, but Blackwell failed to appear.
In November 2007, bail enforcement agents received information that Blackwell might be living with his girlfriend in an apartment off Woodbridge Road in Chatham County. The agents waited for him to come out of the house. Once he got into his car, a 1997 white Chevy Malibu, authorities followed him in hopes of pulling him over and making an arrest. Before officers could apprehend Blackwell, he ditched his car and fled on foot. Afterward, Chatham County deputies looked through the abandoned car and found a handgun, clothes, a security officer badge and a police scanner.
