Gerald's thoughts on the show and crime.
Preparing for Biggest Security Operation Ever

In two weeks, I’ll be headed to Washington for Barack Obama’s inauguration. While this is a proud moment for all Americans, it will be a challenge for working journalists covering the event.

We will be immersed in a crowd of between 1.5 and 3 million people on the National Mall. The emotion will be raw, and the weather cold

The security ramifications for the event are mind boggling. Just today, the secret service announced that all roads in a 3.5 square mile radius will be closed to traffic the day before the inauguration. There will be THOUSANDS of police officers and security guards at this event, and it will likely be the largest security operation in our nation’s history.

It will be fascinating to see how they pull this off. Often times we talk about interoperable communication between different agencies during a hurricane or a high speed chase. How well can they talk to each other? It’s crucial. This will be the biggest test of all.
