Irina "Ira" Yarmolenko was described as a kind and generous 20-year-old who was finishing her sophomore year at UNC Charlotte. She was planning to enroll as a junior at UNC Chapel in the fall of 2008, but was killed during final exams at UNCC on May 5, 2008. Her body was spotted lying on the ground beside her dark blue Saturn on a remote bank of the Catawba River in Gaston County.
