Murder Probe In Progress

CUMBERLAND COUNTY: Police have assigned homicide detectives to the investigation of a cab driver who went missing last week from Fayetteville.

William Simon, 61, was reported missing Thursday, March 19 by his roommate. His car was found late Friday near a radio tower in Spring Lake, about 11 miles north of Fayetteville. His Bible was on the front seat.

Simon's employer told investigators that he picked up a fare at midnight heading from Fayetteville to Raleigh.

Police said there is nothing in Simon's background to suggest he left willingly.

He is described as a black man, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 200 pounds. He is going bald, but has some gray hair. He wears glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at (910) 323-1500.
