EDGECOMBE COUNTY: On August 28, 2007, around 4:30 in the afternoon, Cameron Parker and a friend, Kelvin Harrison, were walking down Sutton Road – a residential area located in the eastern part of Rocky Mount. Three men were minding their business when Parker and Harrison approached them.
An altercation erupted between Cameron Parker and the three, one of whom was 20-year-old Matthew Parker. A short time later, Cameron Parker pulled out a handgun, fired and shot Matthew Parker.
Investigators are not exactly sure what sparked the fight between Cameron Parker and the others, but they believe it had to do with an earlier incident involving rival gangs. They will not release any additional information about the previous incident.
A Rocky Mount police officer was about a block away attending to an unrelated incident when he heard the gunshots. He called back to the police department for assistance. By the time authorities arrived on the scene, Cameron Parker and Kelvin Harrison had already taken off running. Matthew Parker was later pronounced dead at Nash General Hospital.
Rocky Mount police eventually arrested Kelvin Harrison for aiding and abetting. Cameron Parker is still on the run and wanted for murder.
