CATAWBA COUNTY — On May 26, 2006, Christopher Michael Shepard was released from prison after serving more than five years for an assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury charge. He was charged and arrested after kicking his victim repeatedly in the head. Once he completed his sentence, he was assigned a nine-month post-release probation period.

Shepard’s post-release consisted of office visits and residential visits. Shepard’s Probation Officer told NC WANTED that Shepard reported for his first office and home visit, and was scheduled for the second, but never showed up.

In the meantime, between his first and second probation visit, Shepard’s wife called authorities. He was arrested for an assault on a female charge. Shepard was held at the Catawba County Detention Center. On June 29, 2006, the very next day, Shepard posted bond and took off.

Shepard’s Probation Officer told NC WANTED that she received a call from Shepard on July 7, 2006 saying he was going to come in for an office visit, but never did. She said he gave her an address of 325 Nellytown Road, China Grove, NC 28203. He told her he was staying at that location with his grandmother. When the Probation Officer called the house phone number Shepard gave her, the resident told her no one by that name lived at this address. Shepard’s Probation Officer later learned that Shepard told his wife that he was no longer going to meet with his probation officer and that he’d kill someone before ever he went back to prison.

Shepard has previous convictions, including a prison escape charge when escaped from the Rowan Correctional Detention Center back in November 2001.

Shepard is considered to be extremely assaultive and a threat to the community.

Possible locations: There’s a strong possibility Shepard is still in Rowan County and has had more contact with his wife.

Last known address: 1215 Macon Street, Salisbury, NC. This is also where his sister lived.

Most of Shepard’s family is in Rowan including his mother, sister, brother, daughter and father, James Shepard, Jr., who was also incarcerated.
