Eve Carson photo removed from Web site
A Web site that promises to help college students earn money by answering surveys has removed the slain UNC student's photo.
Posted — UpdatedCHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Web site that promises to help college students earn money by answering surveys has agreed to remove a photo of UNC's slain student body president.
The site, College Student Jobs (www.jobscollegestudents.org), posted Eve Carson's photo, along with those of several other people, claiming they are students who recently registered to take part in the online surveys.
Carson, 22, was shot to death in March; her body was found in a residential neighborhood several blocks from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.
UNC spokeswoman Karen Moon said Thursday that the university's legal department worked with lawyers in Southern California to have Carson's photo removed from the site.
A photo of another young woman replaces Carson beneath a photo of the late actor/comedian John Belushi.
The day after her death, thousands of students gathered for impromptu memorial services on the UNC campus to remember Carson, a pre-med major and Morehead-Cain scholar who then-Chancellor James Moeser said "personified the Carolina spirit."
Two men, Demario James Atwater, 22, and Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr., 17, are in jail, charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping, among other charges.
Both men are expected back in court next month, when attorneys will argue pre-trial motions.
