Three probationers arrested in Southern Pines shooting
Police arested four Southern Pines men – three of them already on probation – after shots were fired into an occupied vehicle Tuesday.
Posted — UpdatedA 25-year-old West End man and 22-year-old woman were inside a car in the 700 block of West Wisconsin Avenue when shots were fired into the car, police said. Neither person was injured.
Investigator Brian Edwards, of the Southern Pines Police Department, led the joint investigation with the Moore County Sheriff's Office.
Four people have been arrested and charged with discharging a firearm into occupied property and discharging a firearm within city limits: Antonio Marquette Wright, 23, of 469 S. Gines St.; Duane Malcom Jackson, 22, of 795 S. Mechanic St.; Joseph Brandon Bennett, 20, of 1650 Richards St. 28-A; and DeMario Jemel Terry, 23, of 388 Shaw Ave.
Wright was given a $100,000 secured bond; Jackson, $25,000; and Bennett and Terry, separate $20,000 bonds.
Wright, Jackson and Terry are all on probation for crimes in Moore County, according to state Department of Correction records.
Wright was convicted on Sept. 4 for simple affray or assault. He has been sentenced to probation twice since August 2006 for trespassing and driving offenses.
Jackson was placed on probation for drug possession with intent to sell in November 2007. He served about a month and a half from 2004 to 2005 for violating his probation from larceny and assault convictions.
Terry was sentenced to 24 months' probation in October 2007and to 18 months' probation in January 2008, both times for drug possession.
