Novelist arrested on drug charges
Best-selling novelist Kaye Gibbons was arrested Sunday on charges she fraudulently obtained painkillers, police said.
Posted — UpdatedGibbons, whose full name is Bertha Kaye Gibbons, 48, 0f 4015 Baileyfield Drive in Raleigh, was charged with obtaining drugs by fraud and illegal possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance. She was released from the Wake County Jail on a $5,500 bond.
Details of the charges against her weren't available Monday morning.
The author of the acclaimed novel "Ellen Foster," Gibbons has seven best-sellers to her credit.
In August, she was charged with three counts each of obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresenting herself as a physician and obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by misrepresenting herself as a physician.
