CAPTURE #26: Demar Bryan

NC WANTED has learned that the June capture of fugitive Demar J. Bryan, who was wanted for murder in Spring Lake, was the direct result of a tip to ncwanted.com.

The tipster alerted NC WANTED that Bryan was living in Avon Park, Florida under an alias and that he was driving a tan Mitsubishi. NC WANTED passed the information on the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, who shared it with authorities in Florida, said Lt. Charlie Disponzio of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

“We got the call on June 4th about him being in Florida and by June 6th, he was in custody, so that was a success story for [NC WANTED],” Disponzio said.

Bryan was arrested following a routine traffic stop in Sebring, Florida as he was trying to flee to Jamaica. Authorities in Sebring had been notified that a North Carolina fugitive was hiding out in the area. He presented Sebring police with a North Carolina driver’s license with the name Ladez Kwame Jones.

For some reason, NC WANTED was not informed that the capture from the tip until recently, when Disponzio called an NC WANTED producer.

Bryan, 22, who authorities describe as a violent drug dealer, was wanted for the March 29 shooting death of Army Spec. Charlie Clements at a Spring Lake nightclub. Another soldier, Arthur Mwebe, was shot in the leg.

The capture is NC WANTED's 26th violent fugitive now off the streets. Sixteen of those captures have been the direct result of tips provided through out tip line or our web site.
