Student attacked with hammer at Southeast Raleigh High

A 17-year-old, who already faces an assault charge, is accused of using a hammer to attack a female student inside a modular classroom at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School Friday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 17-year-old, who already faces an assault charge, is accused of using a hammer to attack a female student inside a modular classroom at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School Friday, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Angelo Womack, 17, of Raleigh, was arrested on campus without further incident. The victim was treated and released from WakeMed.

Sughrue said that Womack and the victim are both students at Southeast High, but that is the extent of their relationship.

Womack was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was being held in the Wake County Jail Saturday under a $100,000 bond. His first court appearance is set for Monday.

According to court records, Womack is awaiting trial on another charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The charge was filed March 20 in Wake County, and his trial is set for Jan. 21, 2010.
