KINSTON, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man was arrested and is facing charges after an incident at a Kinston business involving a gun and a police officer.

Police said Imani Jemarque Clayton, 23, of Rocky Mount was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, felony carrying a concealed weapon and resting/delaying/obstruction of a public official. There was no word on his bond.

Officials said shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Kinston police responded to a call of a possible man with a gun in the 4900 block of West Vernon Ave. The incident began when management members of Sanderson Farms at 2801 Sanderson Way were alerted to the possible presence of an armed employee on their campus.

Kinston police located the man and a struggle ensued with the responding officer. After a foot pursuit and subsequent search of the area, the man was located along a nearby wood line bordering Hwy. 70. He was taken into custody without further incident.

A search of his clothing led to the firearm being found.

Clayton was expected in court Wednesday.

This incident lasted an hour and was conducted with the assistance of the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
