Jeter Downs hit a two-run single in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie, leading first place Scranton past Durham 6-2 at the DBAP on Friday night.

After falling behind early for the fourth straight game, the Bulls (9-16) rallied to tie the game in the second inning. Logan Driscoll hit an infield single to bring home Dominic Smith from third base.  RailRiders second baseman Luis Torrens charged the weak grounder, and with no play at first base, threw toward the plate in an attempt to cut down Kameron Misner. Torrens’ throw went past the Scranton catcher to allow Misner to score to make it 2-2.

Downs came up in the Scranton sixth with the bases loaded and two outs against Bulls reliever Michael Gomez and grounded a two-run single to right field to put the RailRiders (16-8) up 4-2. Scranton added two more in the seventh against reliever Joe Record.

Adam Leverett worked five solid innings for Durham, permitting two runs in the first inning, but then shutting down Scranton’s offense. At one stage, Leverett retired 12 straight batters.

The series continues on Saturday night at 6:35 PM ET with Jacob Waguespack (0-0, 4.15) scheduled to start against Cody Poteet (1-0, 1.84).
